Osprey v. Eagle Rescue and Recovery

Osprey with injury redacted held by a volunteer. Owl Moon Raptor Center.

There are no referees in nature. When two hunters pursue the same prey, disputes are bound to happen. One such dispute occurred a few weeks ago when an osprey engaged in a fierce aerial duel with a bald eagle. Unfortunately, the osprey (now nicknamed Thunder) emerged from the skirmish with significant puncture wounds across her body.

However, thanks to the swift intervention of local wildlife rescuers, Thunder was retrieved and transported to Owl Moon Raptor Center for treatment. The larger wounds were carefully sutured by our skilled volunteer veterinarian, and Thunder is now on the path to recovery. Despite the severity of the injuries, there is a chance that Thunder may be ready for release in time for breeding season. Consider supporting Thunder’s recovery.
