It's a thrilling time to witness avian migration! Check out Maryland Birdcast to see which birds are on the move right now. For example, peak migration for broad-winged hawks will hit in the last two weeks of September according to the Maryland Biodiversity Project.

Fun fact: One of the greatest spectacles of migration is a swirling flock of Broad-winged Hawks on their way to South America known as “kettles.” These flocks can contain thousands of circling birds that resemble a huge cauldron being stirred. Fingers crossed that the little broad-winged hawk we re-nested around July 4th is gearing up for his journey south in the coming weeks!
As you enjoy this migration season, consider turning off outdoor lights at night to help prevent disorientation. And don’t forget to ensure your windows are bird-safe to prevent accidents. Happy birdwatching!
